Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure done by a qualified clinician to treat uncomplicated spider veins and uncomplicated reticular veins. The treatment involves the injection of a solution into the affected veins. Once the solution is injected into the vein it will cause the vein to break up and disappear.
Spider veins are very small and very fine. They can appear red or blue. They are closer to the surface of the skin than varicose veins. Spider veins are commonly found on the legs.
Reticular veins are also known as feeder veins. They usually appear either blue or green beneath the surface of the skin.
An average sclerotherapy session lasts 30 to 45 minutes. It typically takes 3-6 treatments for optimal results. Following treatment, compression stockings should be worn continuously for 2-3 days and for 2-3 weeks during the day time.
